Empowering a Community
Our Imani Kenya team is currently working with the community of Thuura in Meru County to establish its own coffee farm and business, and thus position this community for a big boost in its economy. By doing so, Thuura will be able to advance its own children through higher levels of education. But, before coffee farming would be possible or even came to mind, the first thing needed was to solve Thuura’s water supply problem.
Thuura Water Project
Water was 3 miles away. The women would have to walk to the river to fetch jugs of water for their families several times every day. This was exhausting. They needed a prayer to be answered….
Thuura Coffee Project
The idea of coffee farming in Thuura had never come to mind, or at least was not taken seriously. They had the land, but they didn’t have water for irrigation and they didn’t have available labor. But that began to change in 2018 after the water project was completed….
